A metal emblem made for Maximus' armour in Ridley Scott's 2000 epic film 'Gladiator'. The Roman General is seen wearing his armour with his horses Argento and Scarto depicted alongside two large Griffins (mythological eagles) and decorative emblems throughout his career as a Gladiator; pieces that, like his family, are added to his armour as part of his story as it progresses. This particular piece depicts an open blade belonging to his shoulder armour.
All the decoration was interchangeable, both in metal and rubber (for action scenes), and these components were created in duplicate in case they had to be changed after an accident, when for example upon his arrival in Rome, a woman hugs him so effusively that she damages one of the Griffins' wings. Each segment has several anchor points that fit into the leather of the armor and all the metal is coated in a silver plating ready to be aged or soiled by production so it is in perfect condition.
